19th November 2023
It was a special day, not as special as tomorrow, but special enough.
We were planning a meal for Dylan, Greer’s husband whose birthday was a few days ago.
He had sent Kelli a recipe for a steak dinner he wanted, so we went to the corner shop for the ingredients. There were a number of things that certainly weren’t the run of the mill items, like juniper berries and cardamom, I’m sure these are spices that rot in many people’s larders.
Anyway Kelli set about preparing and cooking the meat. Whilst in the oven a potato dish was slowly roasting.
The steak was frying in a pool of red wine, of course I had to check if the liquid was good enough, it was, but I had to check it periodically as the cooking progressed.
This was the first time we had steak for blooming years so we were nervous of the result.
There was no need to worry, it turned out brilliantly.
The next part of the special day was when the rest of the family joined us for a cake eating event to celebrate both Dylan and my upcoming birthday.
The amount of of wine I had drunk blended well with the chocolate cake, making the whole event a bit of a blur, but I’m sure everyone had a good time, I’m sure I’ll hear about it.
