26th January 2025
It was still above freezing again, there was blue skies and sunny periods, so a little snow melted, not much. Most of the stuff pushed into mounds by the ploughs will still be around in June.
We didn’t want to do much furniture work mainly because we had breakfast late, but we did get to one of Kelli’s favourite places, the UPS store to return things to Amazon.
We were due up to Kelli’s mum’s for the weekly ice cream party. Matt was engulfed in a football match that I still don’t understand, but every now and then he would jump up from his chair shouting something, I’m never sure if it’s good or bad.
He wanted me to look at a roaster he had found in the basement. It was a fifties style piece with all rounded corners and Bakelite knobs, it’s the sort of appliance that would cause many houses to be burnt down, and not the kind I would want to be down wind of.
Anyway he wanted a small dent removed from the facia panel. With the aid of a piece of hard plastic and the handle of a screwdriver I managed to knock it out, much to his excitement.
Once all that excitement was over, and the ice cream stored back in the freezer, we headed home intending to take the dogs around the block, tackling the still snow covered pavement.
Finally after freezing to death we returned home.
Kelli usually has a fireside scene on the tv, the flames licking the never burning logs.
I miss not having a real fire, the house is warm, but nothing beats the atmosphere of real flames.
At this time of year, the dry heat of the blown air dries out my skin making me scratch all the time. Even the dogs look at me as if to say, “Give it a rest man”.
