Day 300 Heavy petting

29th May 2018

“We’ll take the Roller” Damian said, as the doors to the garage slowly opened, out slid the black and chrome beast of a car. It was 4am and the crunching of the gravel under the enormous wheels was ear shattering. The drive to Heathrow was a magic carpet ride.

“It’s a shame it’s terminal 3 and not 5″ he said ” “5 is best suited for an arrival in a Rolls, 3 is okay for a Skoda” Damian was always the snob.

So another US adventure begins, two months of sun and furniture re-purposing, and of course a wedding to finalise.

The flight was smooth, but the plane was full.

It arrived in Chicago thirty minutes early but

It landed in the next state, and it trundled for ever, stopping almost exact at the scheduled time. There were no queues at the border check, and the lady officer did not say a word just stamped the passport and moved me on. I bet she’s a riot at home.

Going though the security for the domestic flight was interesting, apart from noticing that I had socks of different colours, I had the full frontal pat down. This was because there was a small coin left in my pocket. The officer explained what he was going to do, which made me feel faint, I wish I had the courage to scream out loud.

After the security fore play, I had to find my belongings deposited in several plastic tray, and put my shoes back on. I think there might be a federal law about odd socks, something about being a communist, but by this time I didn’t give a shit, and settled down to wait for the next flight to Grand Rapids.

Minding my own business, reading my book, I was aware of a noisy African American family sitting close.

They obviously liked their fast food, as the kids were larger than the parents. Anyway, the mother was laughing hysterically at some on-line thing, then came over and plonked her ample posterior on the seat next to me where my shoulder bag was placed. She didn’t even notice when I pulled it away. Eventually the call of the Big Mac lured them away.

I landed at Grand Rapids just after five, eyes a bit sore, but Kelli, with her glowing teeth was there to meet me.
