Day 1320 Packing heat

23rd March 2021

I was the proverbial juggler with drawers to the left of me and carcasses to the right, and on top of that there was the decking.

Whilst the finish coats were drying in the garage, I was outside sawing and screwing down decking planks.

There were some areas of the structure that was not at the correct level, that needed shimming. Maybe I should have noted if the joists had a bow or a droop, but anyway I had to adjust them so that the decking was level.

I had a stock of thin timber that I ran through the planer. I got very good at tapering the shim, I won’t go into the detail, needless to say, it’s all in the wrist movement.

I worked all afternoon, or until I felt like I was ready to collapse.

The last job of the day was to collect up all the wood shavings from all the shims, and there was a lot of it.

I had popped out earlier to get more joist tape using my rebate that had arrived on Monday.

Usually it takes three months for these to come through, but this was only a week, amazing.
