Americans are obsessed with gambling, or so you would gather by the amount of advertising that is on the TV and social media. It is made so enticing with flashy commercials that make you feel you are already a winner. They even give you free money to start.
This is pure evil, draining the last crumbs from the people that have little to start with.
It is a habit that shouldn’t be encouraged, it destroys lives all hanging on the dream of being the one who wins.
Poor old Larry, was addicted to scratch cards, having won once he spent what little he had on them, of course coming up with nothing.
He would hold garage sales several times a year, and we wondered why he would drive off after he sold something, well it turned out that he rushed out to get a scratch card from the store down the road.
This is the typical customer who craves a win.
The biggest enticer is the lottery itself, with the promise of untold wealth, it brings misery to those fortunate enough to get the winning numbers.
In my day it was the football pools, a simple enough game where you had to predict eight wins from ten games, with people huddled around the TV on a Saturday afternoon to hear the results. Dreams were shattered by five thirty.
