There was so much I wanted to achieve today, my list was long, and I was ready to start. Kelli then announced that we had to collect a dresser from a mobile home park on the north side of town. I set my list aside, and we headed out.
For once it was easy to find our way around, usually there is no logic to the numbering, but it was refreshing not to get lost.
We found the place, and outside was the dresser. It was a reasonable piece that will be transformed. After paying the lady, we set off for our next port of call, the pet store to buy Winnie’s food. It might have been a big mistake taking Winnie into the store, it was like a child in a toy shop, she went straight for the chewy things, grabbing a mouthful before Kelli could stop her. So it worked out that as well as the sack of food we also had some slightly dog chewed chews to pay for.
Finally we got back home, and back to my list.
I set up the router to machine a radius on the slats for the sofa. I ran through the stack quickly, just the fixing holes to drill and they’re ready to fit.
Next was a maple dresser. I had removed the top to remove a piece of laminate that had been bonded to it. I had managed to do that but it left the adhesive residue that was really hard to remove.
I decided to flip the top and use the inside surface as the top, but there was a stain all around the edge where the colour had stained the wood, that,I could not remove, however much I sanded. This led me to attempt to sand off the old adhesive with a course sandpaper.
After a lot of effort I had stripped it bare.
This led me to want to strip off all the horrible finishes that factories spray over beautiful timber, which I did. I think taking it back to its natural state will look really good and a bit more contemporary.
Later Chris came round to add more guitar to the song we worked on last week.
